I set off alone on Tuesday, 25th of May, straight out of my garage, with the top down in a light drizzle from my home in Dyce, Aberdeen, in my Pimento Red 1976 Stag. During the first 40 miles, the rain persisted, but with light traffic, I was continuously moving, so with my Bozscreen, stayed dry. Soon I was passing Brechin in sunshine. I travelled at at steady economical 60 mph and met up with John Lewthwaite from Edinburgh at the Perth Park and ride. From there we drove ion convoy to the River Tay and found a Footpath near the 1766 Smeaton Bridge. We craftily parked across the path allowing us to photograph our two Stags with the River & bridge in the background. We received only compliments from inconvenienced passers by. Then we split up and I travelled home; this time at 75 mph, as it was approaching dinnertime and I was hungry ! I had a good trip
Wednesday, four local Stags assembled at Battery Point above Aberdeen Harbour. The Harbourmaster ws there with his Stag. We got some good photo’s on the SOCrates camera.
Next day, I met Alan Sharpe, from Inverurie in his Carmine Stag and we drove across the hills and moors, through Dufftown, Craigellachie and Rothes to Fochabers to photograph our two cars against the famous bronze Stag at The Baxters Soup Visitor Centre., before returning home.
I had a superb dry and sunny top-down drive to St. Andrews, on Monday, 31st May, but sadly, the drizzly weather returned next day to slightly marr my meeting with Peter Rieu-Clarke. Nonetheless, we were taken onto the edge of the Old Golf Course by Dundee Courier press photographer and we got some good pictures there. Peter’s Stag is 1977 Brooklands Green model. I finally handed over the 40th Anniversary Pack to Peter and he went off to meet Wullie Clarke from Glasgow in Stirling. Wullie will take SOCrates to Mellerstain for the weekend Stag Rally.
Photo’s are available in the Tour Camera. I have not had time to post my own, as I am currently on a four day tour with Alan Sharpe and three other Triumph Owners around the Kingdom of Fife.
